Inside this luxury hotel setting, there are many remarkable backdrops to use for couple portraits and family frames across all of its floors. For example, the base of the sweeping oval staircase makes a stunning scene, with family members staggered across the steps, or a bird’s eye angle, looking down through the symmetrical spiral stairwell to the bride and groom below. Upstairs, many couples choose to host their celebrations in the adjacent Gladstone Library and Reading and Writing Room, where characterful photography can be captured in front of the library of over 30,000 book replicas, or next to the angelic wall murals, marble columns and charming original fireplaces. The intuitive architect who designed this regal building made the most of the spellbinding views that surround its location. The large window panes bring in floods of natural light on all floors and the alfresco terrace has direct views of the River Thames. If you are also in favour of outdoor photography, then the picturesque Whitehall Gardens provide a beautiful green space surrounded by entrancing architectural views.Plus, The Victoria Embankment provides further photograph opportunities at the waterfront, where the River Thames meets the famous London Eye in the background.

The Royal Horseguards & One Whitehall Place resides in the political heart of London and former capital of the Kingdom of England. It is the epicentre of the UK’s government, and as such, some of London’s most iconic landmarks and lavish buildings are within walking distance of this luxury hotel wedding venue. As the name of the hotel suggests, the famous ‘Changing of the Guards’ attraction at Horseguards Parade is located just a four minute walk away. This is the ceremonial switch between guards, as one dismounts to hand over duty of protecting Buckingham Palace and St James’s Palace to the next. This regal ceremony takes place at the gates to the Royal Parks, which you can also apply to take photographs in on your wedding day. Further along the stretch of Whitehall is the remarkable Trafalgar Square, home to photogenic fountains, Nelson’s Column and the National Gallery where many of the world’s most precious paintings are safeguarded. Closer to the River Thames lies the heralded Houses of Parliament, the Big Ben clock and of course the striking Westminster Abbey, which has been the backdrop to sixteen Royal Weddings. As you can see, the Westminster area that surrounds The Royal Horseguards & One Whitehall Place is packed with architectural gems and important expressions of English Heritage, all positioned along the magnificent channel of the River Thames.
The Royal Horseguards & One Whitehall Place is located in the go-to destination for historic places of worship. If a religious ceremony is one that you are after prior to a reception at the venue, there are a huge selection to choose from surrounding the hotel. Overlooking the north east corner of Trafalgar Square, St Martins-in-the-fields is a cherished English Anglican church that has stood for centuries. The striking pillars at its front form a beautiful backdrop to first photos as a married couple, and its intricate baroque interiors are considered an architectural jewel in the city. Although, if the elegance of Mayfair is the setting you would prefer to opt for, St George’s Church in Hanover Square is a classical choice with six Corinthian columns framing the grand entrance, and within the church sits the first ever American built organ. Covent Garden is another characterful area to marry, and taking pride of place in the bustling market square is St Paul’s Church. It is also affectionately known as the ‘Actor’s Church’ due to its long association with London’s theatre community.
